WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE PHOTOGRAPHY QUALIFICATION?

To enable you to select relationships and contexts for photography, including the required interpretation, analysis, pre-visualising, conceptualising and capturing of images. On graduation you will be a well-rounded entry-level photographer with a good fundamental knowledge of photography, together with interpersonal and business skills, in preparation for later specialisation in specific photography genres or related fields.

 

 

 

 

 

WHAT WILL I BE CAPABLE OF ON COMPLETION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHY QUALIFICATION?
You will be able to:

• To interpret and analyse general principles and concepts of photographic assignments
• Pre-visualise, conceptualise and analyse approaches according to given specifications
• Capture a range of images in different genres
• Select, edit and render photographic images according to specific criteria
• Document, manage and archive photographic images
• Develop career opportunities in photography
• Produce interactive audio-visual presentations

WHAT CAREER CAN I FOLLOW ON COMPLETION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHY QUALIFICATION?

• Photographer for newspapers and media agencies, for example advertising agencies, web site developers, publishers, to name but a few.
• Self-employed freelance photographer and entrepreneur, specialising in wedding-, event-, food -, product -, fashion -, studio photography, the media.
• Technical assistant providing support for laboratories and printing companies.
• Digital operator in the Interactive Media Industry
• Enter the word of science and information photography.

WHAT ARE THE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS?
This qualification is a vocational (career-focused) course.

• National Senior Certificate OR Grade 11 with a pass mark in all subjects.
• English literacy – competency in understanding, speaking and writing in English
• Computer literacy – knowledge of using common keyboard commands, search engines, word processing, and browser basics

HOW IS THE COURSE STRUCTURED?
The National Certificate: Photography consists of a total of 144 credits:

Communication Module I (18 credits) 12 Weeks or can be done through Distance Learning
Professional Practice Module I (18 credits) 12 Weeks or can be done through Distance Learning
Communication Module II (20 credits) 12 Weeks or can be done through Distance Learning
Professional Practice Module II (23 credits) 12 Weeks or can be done through Distance Learning
Photography Module I (20 credits) 12 Weeks
Photography Module II (24 credits) 12 Weeks
Photography Module III (20 credits) 12 Weeks

HOW DO I REGISTER?

1. Study the Year Plan and choose the modules you would like to register for (please note that modules are hierarchical, in other words, you have to finish module I of any subject before you can register for module II) and your study method, namely full time or distance education.
2. Fill in an enrolment form and email it to [email protected] or fax to 086 611 9252.
3. VSS will send you notification of pro-forma acceptance with a student number and a pro-forma invoice.
4. Pay the required study fees into the bank account indicated on the invoice.
5. Fax or email the proof of payment.
6. You will receive confirmation of your registration with full details of the course you have registered for.
